  • Details
Master Tales of Mystery by The World’s Most Famous Authors of To-Day

Collected and Arranged by Francis J Reynolds

    New York: P.F. Collier & Son, 1915. Salesman’s Sample/Publisher’s Dummy.

Blank black cloth flexible boards, pale pink bordered pages, black and pink illustrations throughout. Fine.

A slim, unassuming volume whose presentation is attractive and feminine. A salesman’s sample or punisher’s dummy was a mock-up of a book presented to prospective customers usually before the book was published in an effort to raise funds for publication. This particular example has excerpts from stories, sample illustrations, and beautifully bordered pages outlining the subject matter of the forthcoming mystery series.
